Woman Killed And 32 Others Injured After Semi Crosses Divider On 210 Freeway

A woman was killed and at least 32 others were injured, including minors, and two people were reported in critical condition after a semi-truck crashed through the centre divider on the 210 Motorway in Irwindale on Saturday morning, authorities said.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at approximately 8:55 a.m. on the westbound span of the 210, just west of Irwindale Avenue.

CHP and the Los Angeles County Fire Department went to the scene, where investigators discovered that a semi-truck had crossed the motorway’s centre barrier and entered opposing lanes.

Officials said that an adult woman was confirmed deceased upon arrival. Her identity has not been revealed pending notification of next of kin.

Earlier, Los Angeles County fire authorities said first responders arrived just after 9 a.m. and discovered that the semi had crashed with the centre divider, resulting in a multi-vehicle disaster.

The fire brigade reported two critical patients and 30 minor injuries. Eight of those patients, including six adolescents, were taken to hospitals for treatment, while 22 others declined.

According to CHP traffic logs, the truck crossed from the eastbound side of the road into the westbound lanes after colliding with the centre barrier. The lorry then jackknifed over several westbound lanes, hitting several vehicles.

The incident sparked a SigAlert for the westbound 210 Motorway, where all lanes were closed for several hours while emergency workers worked on the scene. Traffic was redirected near Irwindale Avenue, resulting in major delays across the neighbourhood.

The eastbound side of the motorway was also affected, with the HOV lane and lanes 1 and 2 briefly closed. CHP reports also showed substantial damage to the centre divider and guardrail.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

No other information was immediately provided.
