Married 80 Years, Centenarian Couple Continues Decades-Long McDonald’s Breakfast Date Tradition

A Tennessee couple who have been married for 80 years still look forward to their weekly Friday breakfast date at a McDonald’s in Murfreesboro.

John and Jerry Carroll, both centenarians, have kept the tradition alive for decades, according to WTVF.

John Carroll, a 101-year-old World War II veteran, said the couple meets friends for breakfast every Friday morning, and he always orders the same meal.

“For breakfast, we usually eat the Egg McMuffin with sausage,” John said. To make the breakfast favorite a little more special, they add a slice of tomato to their sandwiches.

Jerry Carroll said she celebrated her 100th birthday last Sunday.

She also shared that the couple recently reached another remarkable milestone, celebrating their 80th wedding anniversary on April 18. That means they have been married longer than McDonald’s has been serving breakfast.

Looking back on their 80 years of marriage, John said they have stayed together by treating each other with kindness and working hard through life’s challenges.

“Treat your wife nice and, and, uh, try to, try to help her all you can and and work hard. That’s all we’ve had our ups and downs over the years, but we still made it,” he said.

The Carrolls have also become favorites among the restaurant staff.

“We just love them. They’ve been here for a long time,” said Christina Crisp, the store’s general manager.
