Man sentenced to prison for using semi trucks to smuggle $15M in drugs from U.S. into Canada in a single month

A Canadian national was sentenced to decades in prison for using semi trucks to smuggle millions of dollars’ worth of drugs from the United States into Canada over a one-month span in 2022.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California said that Guramrit Sidhu, 63, of Brampton, Ontario, was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison on July 9, 2026.

In March 2026, Sidhu pled guilty to one count of continuing a criminal enterprise. He’s been in federal custody since October 2024.

According to the plea agreement, Sidhu led a criminal organization from September 2020 until February 2023.

Sidhu orchestrated the transportation of eight distinct narcotics loads totaling 1,153 pounds of methamphetamine and 765 pounds of cocaine from September 13, 2022 to October 24, 2022. The medications were worth between $15 million and $17 million.

Law enforcement officers seized these narcotics loads.

“After purchasing large quantities of cocaine and methamphetamine in the United States, Sidhu arranged for their delivery into Canada via long-haul semi-trucks for further distribution. The U.S. Attorney’s Office stated that Sidhu placed telephone numbers and serial numbers on bills of currency for couriers to use as a “token” for identification reasons throughout the delivery and transit of cocaine and methamphetamine.

Sidhu is the eighth defendant to plead guilty in this case, and the other defendants face federal prison terms ranging from 27 to 108 months.

The FBI, the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles Interagency Metropolitan Police Apprehension Crime Task Force (LA IMPACT), the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, US Customs and Border Protection, and Mexican law enforcement agencies are among those conducting the investigation.
