A Las Vegas man is facing multiple counts, including DUI, following a hit-and-run accident that left a pedestrian with life-threatening injuries.
Emilio Archila, 26, is facing accusations of DUI leading in significant bodily harm, reckless driving resulting in death or serious bodily harm, and failure to halt at the scene of an accident.
The incident occurred on Thursday, September 10, soon before 10 p.m. on South Rancho Drive near Teddy Drive, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Evidence at the site revealed that a 61-year-old man was moving a wheelchair on Rancho Drive, south of Teddy Drive, along the east curb line. At the same time, a 2016 Audi A3 was driving north on Rancho Drive.
The accident occurred when the Audi drifted right and collided with the man, who was projected forward and came to a stop on the road. The driver fled the scene. The Audi was subsequently involved in another incident with a Toyota at the crossroads, but the driver fled the scene.
Medical workers transported the pedestrian to a nearby hospital, where he was admitted with critical injuries.
Police later spotted the vehicle and its driver, Archila. He was detained and sent to the Clark County Detention Center, where he was held on $5,000 bail. His initial court appearance was set for Saturday morning.
