A Chicago man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for purchasing fentanyl and other drugs by mail and then selling them.
According to the FBI, Alonzo Powe, 55, agreed to receive many parcels of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine from Arizona via mail in exchange for huge sums of cash.
It happened between 2022 and 2023. Powe lived in the Wrightwood area on the South Side.
In 2023, police performed a court-authorized search of Powe’s home and discovered a Postal Service package carrying fentanyl, as well as a number of additional bundles and plastic bags containing the drug.
Powe, 55, pled guilty to a federal narcotics crime earlier this year and received a 12-year jail term on September 9.
