A man wanted by US Marshals in connection with a homicide in New York has been arrested in Gwinnett County.
Authorities claim 35-year-old Kean Wiggins has been on the run since the fatal shooting of Shardonay Tyce in Troy, New York, on May 6, 2026, and is considered armed and dangerous. Wiggins was charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the killing.
On Thursday morning, the Gwinnett County Police Department said that Wiggins was seen near Binnies Way NE and Braselton Highway NE.
Wiggins was captured about 11:30 a.m., following an hours-long manhunt. The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office reported in a press conference on Thursday afternoon that Wiggins opened fire on deputies and U.S. Marshals who approached him. The police officers fired fire, striking Wiggins at least once. He was brought into arrest and treated on the spot before being sent to a nearby hospital.
Wiggins’ arrest resulted in no injuries to cops or other law enforcement personnel, according to officials.
Authorities said they also apprehended an unknown lady at her residence, who is now facing charges for harboring a fugitive.
The search closed all lanes of Braselton Highway on Thursday morning. The lanes are now reopened.
Mountain View High School, Freeman’s Mill Elementary School, and Twin Rivers Middle School were all placed on soft lockdown for the majority of the day as police looked for Wiggins.
According to officials with the Gwinnett County School District, the event was not reported to schools, all lockdowns have been lifted, and all students are safe.
