A half-dozen people were arrested in connection with an organized vehicle theft ring that reportedly carried out carjackings in Los Angeles and Orange counties recently.
According to a news release from the Downey Police Department, the crimes started on August 7 and lasted until September 22. They primarily targeted high-value vehicles in both counties. Throughout the investigation, the crew was tied to numerous stolen high-end automobiles, multiple police pursuits, a carjacking in the City of Downey, and an instance in which a suspect displayed a firearm at a police officer during a traffic stop,” the release stated.
During the investigation, authorities executed search warrants at 11 different sites linked to suspects and criminal activity, resulting in six arrests and the recovery of nine stolen vehicles and more than a dozen firearms, according to a Downey Police Department announcement.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office accused four of the individuals with various felonies, although authorities did not identify the accusations.
The investigation involved law enforcement from both counties, including Los Angeles and Orange County sheriff’s departments, the California Highway Patrol, and police departments in South Gate, El Monte, Torrance, Redondo Beach, Beverly Hills, Manhattan Beach, and Gardena. This investigation emphasizes the necessity of collaboration among law enforcement agencies in combatting organized criminal activity that crosses jurisdictional lines,” according to a Downey Police Department announcement.
