A Central Florida couple was arrested following an armed standoff over a dog.
According to local law enforcement, the recent armed standoff with Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies began with an argument about a neighbor’s dog and concluded with a couple being jailed for multiple charges.
The arrested pair is named Christian Sarata, 57, and Marla Stroble, 59.
Earlier this month, deputies were summoned to the couple’s home on Red Fox Drive in Winter Haven on an allegation of an armed disturbance. The victim claimed that Stroble challenged him about invading her property with his dog.
During their conversation, Sarata came outside and handed Stroble a kitchen knife. The woman then threatened to kill both the victim and his dog.
As deputies came, the couple retreated within their home, refusing to come out or let them in. Sarata mentioned having a pistol and a rifle and threatening to shoot anyone who came inside.
The PCSO SWAT squad (Special Weapons and Tactics) went to the scene and worked to resolve the issue calmly.
During the standoff, deputies introduced a chemical agent inside the apartment, making it uncomfortable for the suspects to remain inside. Sarata thwarted Stroble’s effort to surrender, but she eventually gave up and was brought into custody.
Approximately a half hour later, deputies arrested Sarata.
There were no firearms fired, and no deputies were hurt.
During the search, deputies discovered a weapon, drug paraphernalia, and methamphetamine.
Christian Sarata was charged with aggravated assault on law enforcement (five counts), possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill (two counts), false imprisonment, possession of methamphetamine, misuse of 911 (14 counts), resisting without violence (four counts), and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Marla Stroble was charged with four counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, two counts of resisting with violence, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, 14 counts of misusing 911, and three counts of resisting without violence.
