The former treasurer for a Leon County church has been apprehended on fraud charges, according to the LCSO.
The LCSO’s Financial Crimes Unit detained Marisa Humose, 48, on Monday after conducting an investigation into financial theft and fraud at the church.
According to LCSO, the church’s pastor discovered fraudulent transfers from the church’s Cash App account in June and reported financial discrepancies.
Humose served as the church’s treasurer from June 2022 to June 2025. She had access to the church’s bank and Cash App accounts and was responsible for maintaining financial records.
Humose was employed at Greater Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, according to the arrest documents.
Investigators discovered that Humose took almost $70,000 from the church’s Cash App account between 2022 and 2025.
Humose faces one count of grand theft and one count of organized scheme to defraud.
According to LCSO, Humose also worked as an administrative assistant for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The sheriff’s office stated that she was laid off on Monday following a separate inquiry by the FWC.
Humose falsified on her timecards from June to September, resulting in $5,654 in unearned income. She worked 487 hours but was only in the building for 194.5 hours. She had been an FWC employee for roughly 23 years.
