Miami police announced the arrest of two men following an alleged armed robbery.
The happening occurred Tuesday afternoon on the 3500 block of Northwest 11th Court in the city’s Allapattah neighborhood.
According to authorities, the victim was contacted on Instagram by Stanley Byrd, 22, of Miami Gardens, who expressed an interest in purchasing two Cuban link jewelry sets, which featured a chain and bracelet. According to police, Byrd planned to meet the victims at a specific time and location to execute the deal.
Police claimed the victim had brought a friend to help present the jewelry, and when they arrived, they noticed Byrd and another person, subsequently identified by authorities as Goldman Bennet, 20, of Miami Gardens.
After Byrd identified himself as the buyer, investigators said Byrd and Bennet tried on the jewelry before Byrd informed the victim, “I have the money in my backpack,” but instead of cash, Goldman pulled out a gold and black revolver from the bag.
According to the arrest form, Byrd then pulled a black revolver from his waistband and held the victims at gunpoint while Byrd searched the victim’s pockets for his wallet, mobile phone, and Meta glasses before fleeing.
The victim immediately called police from his friend’s phone, and authorities reacted promptly, searching the neighborhood for the culprits.
Police said they found Byrd and Bennet near the Allapattah Metrorail station at 3501 NW 12th Ave.
Officers stated they ordered both men to the ground, but Byrd fled, dropping his backpack with the gold and black gun that police later determined had been stolen from Orlando, and tossed the smaller gun into the bushes before being apprehended.
Police charged Byrd with various charges and transported him to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond is marked as “to be set.”
Bennet was charged with armed robbery, and his bond was noted as “to be set.”
