Police: Florida Couple Charged After 5-month-old Twins Found Malnourished And Dehydrated

A Florida couple is behind bars while their 5-month-old twins recover in a hospital after being brought in extremely malnourished and dehydrated, according to police.

Leroy Somersall III, 24, and Madison Smith, 23, were charged with child negligence and great bodily harm after taking their twins, a boy and a girl, to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children on January 6. According to the arrest affidavit obtained by local media, Child Protective Services received a hotline report concerning the babies and notified law enforcement.

When Seminole County sheriff’s investigators arrived at the hospital, medical personnel informed them that the baby boy was “dehydrated and malnourished to the point where you can see every bone in his body.”

According to the affidavit, both infants weighed only 5.7 pounds at five months old. Investigators discovered that the baby girl weighed more than that at delivery. The twins were born roughly a month prematurely, and authorities said Smith tested positive for THC during the delivery.

Smith informed investigators that she and Somersall transported the babies to the hospital after the boy became unresponsive. She stated that a pediatrician had previously recommended feeding the twins 70 to 80 milliliters of formula every two hours, but she had not seen or spoken with the pediatrician since September 2025, when the babies were newborns.

Both parents told authorities they were unaware that feeding portions would need to rise as the baby grew. They also stated that the twins were slim because Somersall himself is thin.

According to investigators, a search of the RV where the family lived revealed no formula.

Somersall and Smith were arrested and are being jailed in the John E. Polk Correctional Facility on $100,000 bond each. They are set to appear in court on March 3.

According to police, both babies are expected to live and have improved since being hospitalized, despite the possibility of brain damage.
