A suspect wanted for multiple felony crimes was apprehended during a barricade situation in a Mesa neighborhood on Saturday morning, according to the city’s police department.
Police stated that around 10 p.m. on Friday, a woman was reportedly assaulted by her 25-year-old son at a home near University Drive and Lindsay Road.
The suspect also allegedly stole the woman’s car before fleeing the house, according to authorities.
According to police, after conducting an initial investigation, officers had probable cause to arrest the son on assault and larceny charges.
Around 7:30 a.m., officers discovered the stolen vehicle near Main Street and Stapley Drive. Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but it fled.
Police discovered the vehicle for the second time at the initial location, according to officials. The woman who reported the attack came out of the house, claiming her kid was inside.
Multiple units, including SWAT, were dispatched to the location.
Police stated that they fired less-lethal pepper ball shots to bring the subject out of the house. He apparently threw rocks at the officers and refused to cooperate, according to officials. He was eventually brought into custody.
The 25-year-old male was detained on the following charges:
- Unlawful Flight from Pursuing Law Enforcement
- Theft of Means of Transportation
- Resisting Arrest
- Assault
- Criminal Damage
- Preventing use of Telephone in Emergency
