A Pennsylvania man was apprehended for leaving sexually explicit and threatening messages for Gov. Mikie Sherrill last year.
On January 22, the New Jersey State Police charged Stephen M. Cilurso, 72, of Alden, Pennsylvania, with stalking and harassment. He allegedly left messages for Sherrill between October and November of last year.
The charges were filed in Livingston Municipal Court (Sherrill’s congressional office is in Livingston) and then moved to the Essex County Prosecutor.
Cilurso was detained by the United States Marshal in Pennsylvania and is awaiting extradition to New Jersey.
Cilurso was accused in 2021 of leaving more than a dozen harassing and vulgar voicemails at the office of Pennsylvania Congresswoman Madeline Dean. Those communications were also sexually graphic, including the Proud Boys and Dean’s support for impeaching President Donald Trump. He admitted to officers that “when he gets into drinking, he has a dirty mouth.”
Cilurso pleaded guilty to four counts of harassment in 2023 and received a probationary sentence.
