A 28-year-old Chicago man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for breaking into a Naperville house during the summer of 2022.
At the time of the assault, the man was on probation from Cook County after pleading guilty to aggravated domestic battery charges in April 2022.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin stated that Adam Stone, formerly of the 600 block of East. Groveland Park appeared for his sentencing hearing before Judge Margaret O’Connell, who imposed the sentence. On May 6, 2025, after a two-day bench trial that ended on April 22, 2025, Judge O’Connell convicted Stone guilty of two counts of home invasion, a Class X felony.
According to prosecutors, on August 6, 2022, at around 4:12 a.m., officers from the Naperville Police Department went to a report of a residential break-in on Smokey Court, where they saw several men holding down another man, later identified as Stone, outside the residence. Stone went to the home where his ex-girlfriend was visiting, shattered a basement window, and entered. Once inside, Stone struggled with the inhabitants and was eventually pushed out. About fifteen minutes later, Stone hurled a landscaping brick through the front window of the house and at the windows of vehicles parked in the driveway.
“We all have the right to feel safe and secure in our homes,” Berlin said. “Our homes are our sanctuaries that provide us with safety and security and when Mr. Stone broke into the victim’s home, he not only shattered the feeling of security the homeowners previously enjoyed, he also set an entire community on edge. Judge O’Connell’s twenty-year sentence sends the crystal-clear message that in DuPage County, we will not stand for this type of violent behavior and anyone engaged in such behavior will find themselves facing serious consequences.”
