Kenner police say a fast-moving wave of auto break-ins has resulted in five suspects being arrested after investigators linked them to 14 vehicle burglaries that jolted numerous communities around the city. The occurrences occurred between February 24 and February 27 and were concentrated in the University City and Susan Park neighborhoods. Officers made multiple arrests in early March after increasing patrols and pursuing information from homeowners, according to WWL-TV. Police claim they discovered evidence linking the defendants to the break-ins.
According to WWL-TV, the five arrested include both adults and adolescents, and they face various offenses. Kendell James was arrested on 11 charges of vehicle burglary and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and two 16-year-old adolescents were also charged in connection with the same occurrences.
Jorge Luis Sanchez-Flores was apprehended after officers discovered him on Loyola Boulevard and charged him with a single car burglary. Another defendant, Trey Cayette, is charged with attempted car burglary, as well as resisting arrest, simple escape, and obstruction. Cayette was also linked to a March 3 burglary in the Lexington region, according to investigators, adding to the larger probe.
Kenner detectives claimed they noticed an increase in vehicle break-ins and responded by saturating the impacted neighborhoods with additional patrols, which they say helped lead to the arrests. “Residents should report suspicious activity to 9-1-1,” Kenner Chief Keith Conley said in statements published by WWL-TV, adding that prompt calls from neighbors helped police identify perpetrators.
According to the police, the 14 burglaries occurred throughout the city rather than on a single block, and some arrests were made as a result of community tips combined with targeted investigation work. As part of the case briefing, police gave reporters the names of the suspects and their criminal records.
Those arrested remain in Kenner custody and may face prosecution in Jefferson Parish, though booking information and court dates were not immediately available. The Kenner Police Agency’s website provides contact information and crime-tip services for anyone who want to provide information or register security cameras with the agency.
Police are advising drivers to secure their vehicles and keep valuables out of sight, and detectives believe more tips and video footage could lead to more arrests as the investigation continues.
