According to Akron police, an 18-year-old who had been kicked out of the club shot a security guard at the bar.
The shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday at The Vortex Concert Club & Lounge, located in the 1100 block of Brittan Road.
The police reported that the 38-year-old guard sustained a gunshot wound to the chest.
Officers provided quick help and placed a chest seal before paramedics transferred him to a nearby hospital. His condition has not been published, but authorities say the guard’s injuries are not life-threatening.
The suspect, Cody Scarbrough, was apprehended at the scene.
Scarbrough was led out of the club, and while speaking with the guard outside, police said he pulled out the gun he was illegally carrying and shot.
Scarbrough is currently being held at the Summit County Jail on charges of felonious assault, carrying a hidden weapon, and possession of a firearm on liquor permit premises.
This marks the second time in less than a week that a security guard has been shot at an Akron pub.
On Friday, March 20, a 35-year-old female guard was shot in the leg outside Status 8, located in the 300 block of Paul Williams Street.
Police said the shooting occurred after she approached two ladies and a male who had been booted out of the club.
There were no arrests in the incident, and the guard is expected to fully recover.
