Man apprehended after attempted armed kidnapping at Port St. Lucie church

A North Miami man was apprehended on Sunday evening for allegedly attempting to kidnap a 74-year-old woman in a Port St. Lucie church parking lot.

Jose Tsu Zamora, 64, is facing many felony counts following the incident at First United Methodist Church on Southwest Prima Vista Boulevard on Sunday morning.

The attempted kidnapping occurred around 10:49 a.m. in the church parking lot, according to the Port St. Lucie Police Department.

Zamora, who had previously been romantically involved with the victim, approached the 74-year-old woman despite an active order barring any contact with her.

According to police, while armed with a revolver, Zamora grabbed the victim’s arms and attempted to force her into his vehicle against her will.

Several witnesses noticed the incident and promptly intervened. Two Good Samaritans confronted Zamora and told him to release the victim.

During the confrontation, Zamora flashed his firearm before fleeing the scene in his vehicle, according to authorities.

Church security film captured parts of the incident and verified witness accounts, showing Zamora pursuing the girl into the parking lot and forcefully detaining her.

Port St. Lucie Police and U.S. Marshals apprehended Zamora peacefully on Sunday evening at a Hialeah residence.

The investigation discovered that Zamora is a convicted felon who is not permitted to possess firearms or ammunition.

Zamora is facing five felony accusations, including attempted kidnapping with a firearm, aggravated assault, and battery of a person over 65. He is being jailed in St. Lucie County Jail on a $745,000 bond.
