A woman from New York has just had her life turned around after winning $1,000,000 in the lottery.

The victory occurred on the aptly called $1,000,000 Bonus Cashword scratch-off game, and Velma James of Brooklyn will now have the opportunity to spend the resultant six-figure prize any way she wishes.
The winner chose the lump sum payment of $405,034 and purchased her ticket at 317 Marcus Garvey Liquors in Brooklyn, claiming one of the game’s final few rewards before it is phased down.
There is only one top prize for the $1,000,000 Bonus Cashword game left before the lottery withdraws it.
Scratch-off games have been very popular among players, producing more than $4,339,794,048 in total sales in fiscal year 2024-2025 alone, with the proceeds going to benefit school districts across five boroughs through the Lottery Aid to Education fund.
