A juvenile now faces a formal murder charge in the death of a 4-month-old infant, whom authorities say someone threw to the floor inside a Claremont home earlier this week.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed one count of murder against the juvenile suspect after reviewing the Claremont Police Department’s investigation, according to an update released Thursday.
A Pomona Superior Court judge arraigned the juvenile suspect Thursday and ordered him held in custody, police said.
Authorities also identified the victim as Troy May Elaine Cohn, a 4-month-old resident of Pomona.
Police have not released the suspect’s identity because he is a juvenile.
The case stems from an incident on June 29 at a home in the 1400 block of Lynoak Drive.
According to the Claremont Police Department, officers responded just after 11:30 a.m. to reports of a medical emergency. When they arrived, they determined that a juvenile had allegedly thrown the infant to the floor inside the residence.
Medical staff initially took the baby to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center before transferring her to Children’s Hospital of Orange County because of the severity of her injuries, police said. The infant later died.
Officers took the juvenile suspect into custody at the scene before booking him on suspicion of murder at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Claremont Police Department at 909-399-5411. Anonymous tips can be submitted through L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers by calling 800-222-8477.
