Four men have been charged with aggravated assault after authorities say they viciously struck another man during a brawl inside an Irving restaurant, causing significant head injuries.
According to the Irving Police Department, officers responded just after midnight on Thursday, July 2, to Peak Restaurant & Bar in the 3400 block of West Airport Freeway (SH-183) after receiving reports of a huge fight involving 15 to 20 persons. The caller said that several people were fighting and tossing beer bottles inside the business.
Officers arrived and studied security camera footage, which showed four men assaulting another man. Investigators acquired descriptions of the suspects and later found all four men, as well as the victim, at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Irving on N. MacArthur Boulevard. Police said CCTV evidence verified each suspect’s involvement.
According to investigators, 31-year-old Suraj Basnet was caught on video repeatedly punching the victim in the head with his fists and feet, while the other suspects allegedly used their fists, feet, chairs, and glass bottles to attack him.
The victim sustained a head laceration that required stitches, busted lips, neck cuts, and a suspected concussion. Police stated the medical results for the concussion were still pending.
Suraj Basnet, 29, Dhiraj Basnet, 22-year-old Amit Khatri-Nepal, and 22-year-old Shoib Khadka were all charged with aggravated assault inflicting serious bodily injury, a second-degree felony.
