Lucas County judge orders $600K bond for Toledo man facing child sex charges

TOLEDO, Ohio — A Toledo man accused of sexually abusing a child will remain behind bars after a Lucas County Common Pleas Court judge set his bond at $600,000 during a hearing Thursday.

Earlier this month, a Lucas County grand jury indicted 49-year-old Jimmie Self on five counts of rape, all first-degree felonies, along with two counts of gross sexual imposition, which are third-degree felonies.

During Thursday’s indigency hearing, the judge set bond at $150,000 for each of two counts and $100,000 for each of three additional counts, bringing the total bond to $600,000 without a 10% provision.

The court also imposed a signature bond with electronic monitoring and house arrest. Under the bond conditions, Self is prohibited from possessing weapons, using drugs or alcohol, or having any direct or indirect contact with the alleged victim.

According to the indictment, the alleged victim was younger than 13 years old. Prosecutors allege the offenses occurred between Sept. 1, 2021, and May 23, 2026.

Authorities initially arrested Self last week on two rape charges before the grand jury returned the expanded indictment.

Self’s arraignment has been continued until 9 a.m. on July 23, giving him additional time to retain legal counsel.
