A Kentucky man was apprehended after a Lee County child reported inappropriate internet conversation to a school resource officer, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, the child informed them that an internet acquaintance had began communicating inappropriately. The child reported the issue to a school resource officer, who, according to investigators, moved rapidly to find and preserve evidence related to the case.
As the inquiry progressed, computer forensic evidence helped officials identify 54-year-old Chad Eugene Brinkley of Ludlow, Kentucky.
Brinkley was arrested and charged with two cases of grooming. His bond was set at $75,000.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office thanked the United States Marshals Service for assisting in apprehending Brinkley, who lives out of the state. The department also commended the Easterseals Mississippi Child Advocacy Center for their help in the case.
According to sheriff’s authorities, the investigation emphasizes the necessity of youngsters speaking out about inappropriate online behavior and adults reporting those concerns as soon as possible.
Brinkley is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
