19-year-old taken into custody on firearm charges in Mattapan

A 19-year-old man was taken into custody on multiple firearm-related offenses Saturday night in Mattapan.

Officers assigned to District 3 stopped at Wolcott Street and Columbia Road around 9 p.m. on August 29, 2026, and arrested Giovanny Remy of Brockton.

Officers were conducting directed patrols near Blue Hill Avenue and Columbia Road when they noticed a group of males gathered around a car parked in a designated “No Parking” zone.

Officers approached the group and noticed Remy wearing a cross-body bag.

After a brief exchange, investigators watched another individual retrieve Remy’s cross-body bag and deposit it inside the vehicle.

Officers inquired about the contents of the crossbody bag.

One of the individuals on the scene verified that there was a firearm in the cross-body bag and that he currently has an active License to Carry.

Officers decided that Remy, who had direct custody of the cross-body bag containing the pistol, was under the legal age to possess a firearm and handcuffed him.

A subsequent investigation discovered that Remy lacked a License to Carry.

District detectives arrived on the spot and began investigating the handgun.

The pistol was identified as a Shadow Systems MR920 9mm, loaded with 10 rounds of ammo and equipped with a flashlight.

Remy is scheduled to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of carrying a loaded handgun without a license, as well as possession of ammunition without a FID card.
