A house fire on the city’s Northwest Side has left at least three people hospitalized; two of them are minors.
The fire began shortly after 6 a.m. Monday in the basement of a multi-unit property on North Austin Avenue and Irving Park Road in the Portage Park neighborhood.
According to officials, four individuals were inside the house at the time of the incident but were able to escape. Three were evacuated to local hospitals: a man and a man in critical condition and another boy in serious condition. The ages and identities have not yet been revealed.
According to investigators, a cat was saved from the fire but needed to be revived by CFD. A dog also managed to escape the house.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
