Authorities in Cincinnati have arrested a 17-year-old male student in connection with a sexual assault at Hughes High School, according to local police.
School resource officers returned to the school on Tuesday to continue their investigation into an assault that had been reported on Sept. 18. Police confirmed the details on Wednesday.
Investigators interviewed the victim and witnesses at the school before taking the suspect into custody. The teen was transported to the Children’s Interview Center, where detectives conducted further questioning.
Following the investigation, the juvenile faces two counts of attempted rape, one count of gross sexual imposition, and one count of kidnapping, according to the Cincinnati Police Department.
Cincinnati Public Schools responded to the allegations with an official statement, which reads in part:
“The student who was arrested will not return to Hughes. We are working with the student who came forward to make sure she and her family have the care and support they need. The Cincinnati Police Department is leading the criminal investigation.”
