Nine adults and one dog were rescued from two motels in the West Atlantic City section of Egg Harbor Township on Saturday, according to police.
The operation commenced at approximately 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, when the Pleasantville Fire Department performed a welfare check at the Travel Inn and New Sea Breeze motels. Emergency responders discovered first-floor rooms submerged under two to three feet of water.
The Bargaintown Volunteer Fire Company deployed its high-water rescue vehicle to transport all nine adults and the dog to a warming center established at the Egg Harbor Township Community Center.
During a subsequent sweep of the motels by the Bargaintown Volunteer Fire Company, personnel identified and extinguished a small fire in one of the rooms at the Travel Inn.
Following the rescue, officials arranged second-floor lodging for all nine adults and the dog.
The Egg Harbor Township EMS, Department of Public Works, Parks and Recreation, and Police Department provided additional support throughout the rescue operation.
