A man has been apprehended during an overnight vehicle chase that resulted in a multi-vehicle crash that injured two deputies and several others.
The crash happened Saturday night around 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of IH-35 and N Weidner Rd.
According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Department, deputies observed a BMW speeding and weaving in traffic. They tried to stop the BMW but were unable after losing sight of it. The car was passed by a deputy again, and another chase began.
The BMV driver then ran a red light at the crossroads of I-35 and Weidner. A deputy then collided with a truck and an SUV while attempting to clear the junction.
One officer had a head injury and showed signs of a concussion, while another was injured on the wrist. Multiple civilian car occupants, including a kid who was not wearing a seatbelt, were brought to the hospital for minor injuries.
Michael Castilleja, 19, the BMW driver, was detained and charged with fleeing arrest with a motor vehicle after being found at his girlfriend’s home.
