A man has been arrested after allegedly making threats on social media about a vigil planned for conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
According to police, the 19-year-old posted comments on Facebook threatening to make the event dangerous.
Police claim a Facebook post tipped them off on September 15, only hours before a scheduled Charlie Kirk vigil on UTSA’s main campus.
The vigil went forward as planned, but the suspect ended up behind bars.
The post emerged on the San Antonio Young Republicans’ Facebook page, which is organizing the vigil.
According to arrest documentation, 19-year-old Xaelyn Dunbar responded to a post with a disturbing message: “I’ma make sure this won’t be a good or comforting vigil…” “Watch and see.”
Police claim Dunbar threatened to use a Ford F-250 as a weapon.
He goes on to remark, “I wouldn’t advise trying to stop a Ford 250 diesel truck—show y’all how much Charlie really means,” according to the warrant.
Later that same day, cops arrived at Dunbar’s house.
Officers claim he admitted to writing the comments and told them he thought it was a joke. But detectives say he also acknowledged that the posts may be interpreted as threats.
When asked if it was worthwhile, Dunbar told detectives, “I did what I did and can accept the consequences.”
Dunbar was detained by UTSA police and remains in jail on Wednesday, with a $40,000 bond.
