One person is dead after a drive-by shooting at a bar in Hawthorne on Sunday night, authorities said.

The happened around 7 p.m. inside The Greatest, a bar in the 13700 block of S. Inglewood Avenue, according to the Hawthorne Police Department.

Officers said the victim was shot while seated on the bar’s front terrace. They came and discovered one victim with a dead gunshot wound at the scene.

On Monday, the victim’s family recognized him as Anthony Jackson Jr., 35. They stated that he was watching Sunday Night Football with buddies from the same fantasy football league when the incident occurred.

“He grew up to be very responsible,” said the victim’s mother, Yvette Spicer-Jackson. “Very respectful and all out a good guy.”

As their investigation continues, authorities have yet to identify a person or vehicle involved in the event. They are attempting to discover whether it was gang-related.

Witnesses told police that a man was booted out of the club after a fight broke out, but investigators believe Jackson was not involved in the incident.

“To know that he wasn’t involved and for something like this to happen so close to home is insane,” Jackson’s sister, Allyson, stated. “I still can’t wrap my head around it.”

While authorities continue to look for his killer, family members are looking for a way to begin the grieving process. They recall him as a people person with a passion for the culinary arts (he worked as a chef at UCLA) and a love of sports, particularly the Arizona Cardinals and the New York Yankees.

“He was outgoing, the biggest trash talker,” Jackson’s father, Anthony Jackson Sr., explained. “He was competitive whether it be in dominos, cornhole, checkers.”
