A teacher in Miami Lakes accused of inappropriate behavior with a student from another state was arrested on Tuesday, according to records.
According to Miami-Dade jail records, Jordan Hawk, 26, is charged with four counts of indecent liberties with a juvenile and has an active warrant from North Carolina.
Hawk waived extradition during her court appearance on Wednesday, ensuring that she will be sent to North Carolina within 30 days.
If North Carolina officials do not pick up Hawk within 30 days, she will be released from Miami’s jail.
Hawk, a teacher at Miami Lakes K-8 Center, was arrested on an active warrant issued by Kannapolis Police on October 17.
Kannapolis police issued the following statement:
“Jordan Hawk, 26, of Florida, has been arrested on four counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor. The incidents took place earlier this year when Ms. Hawk was teaching at a local school and involved a juvenile student. She was arrested by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office and is expected to be extradited to North Carolina and taken into custody by the Kannapolis Police Department.”
In a statement, Miami-Dade County Public Schools said it was “aware of the arrest of a Miami Lakes K-8 Center employee for an alleged incident that occurred out of state. M-DCPS is cooperating with authorities involved in this matter. The individual’s employment has been terminated and will be prohibited from future employment with this District.”
