Eureka, CA — The National Weather Service in Eureka has posted multiple marine alerts along the Northern California coast, warning of hazardous winds and building seas from Friday night through Sunday morning, October 26, 2025.

What’s in effect:
– Small Craft Advisory: In effect until 3 a.m. Saturday, transitioning to stronger conditions offshore.
– Gale Warning: 3 a.m. to 11 a.m. PDT Saturday for waters from Pt. St. George to Cape Mendocino, 10 to 60 nautical miles offshore.
– Hazardous Seas Watch: Saturday morning through Sunday, with the most dangerous conditions expected as the system peaks.
– Separate Small Craft Advisory: Cape Mendocino to Pt. Arena marine zone until 8 p.m. Saturday.

What to expect:
– Winds: Southwest 15 to 25 knots with gusts up to 35 knots, especially during the gale period.
– Seas: 12 to 15 feet initially, building to 14 to 19 feet under the Hazardous Seas Watch. South of Cape Mendocino toward Pt. Arena, seas may reach up to 13 feet with gusts near 30 knots.

Impacts and safety:
– Strong winds and steep, chaotic waves can capsize or damage small vessels and significantly reduce visibility.
– Mariners should remain in port if possible, secure equipment, and avoid open waters until conditions ease late Sunday.

Forecasters emphasize that conditions will deteriorate rapidly as the system intensifies Saturday, with the highest risk window from early Saturday morning through Sunday.
