New York, NY — A chilly night is on tap for the New York City metro area and nearby suburbs, with temperatures slipping into the mid-30s. The drop will trigger multiple Frost Advisories, along with a Freeze Watch that could linger into early Monday for interior locations.
The National Weather Service offices in Mount Holly, NJ, and New York, NY, report that a Frost Advisory is in effect from 11 p.m. Saturday until 9 a.m. Sunday. A Freeze Watch follows late Sunday night into Monday morning for inland areas more prone to colder air.
The Frost Advisory spans northern New Jersey, southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New York, and southern Connecticut. Counties included are Mercer, Monmouth, Camden, Bucks, Chester, Orange, Westchester, and Fairfield. Temperatures are expected to fall to the mid-30s, with some sheltered inland valleys nearing 32°F.
The Freeze Watch covers Orange County in New York, western Passaic County in New Jersey, and parts of northern Connecticut, where lows could dip into the upper 20s to lower 30s by early Monday.
Forecasters caution that frost and freezing temperatures may damage or kill sensitive plants and could harm unprotected vegetation or exposed plumbing. Residents should cover outdoor plants, move potted flowers indoors, and disconnect garden hoses before the coldest hours near daybreak.
Sunday afternoon should bring a rebound into the 50s under mostly sunny skies, before another round of subfreezing temperatures develops late Sunday night.
