On January 30, 2026, Samuel Giles, 55, of Washington, D.C., pleaded guilty to robbery in Calvert County Circuit Court and was sentenced to 5 years in the Maryland Division of Corrections.
Darnell Marquis Atchison, a co-defendant from D.C., had pled guilty to the same charge and was sentenced to five years in prison.
The convictions resulted from an event that occurred on May 4, 2025. On that date, two masked men entered Dunkirk’s Town Center Market and confronted the store clerk.
They then grabbed cigarette boxes and quarter rolls before fleeing the business. Deputies from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office eventually identified Giles and Atchison as the offenders, and they were captured in Washington, DC.
Christopher J. Monte, Senior Assistant State Attorney, prosecuted this case.
