Man with ties to international gang sentenced to prison for ‘jackpotting’ in Mississippi

The United States Attorney’s Office in North Mississippi stated that a Venezuelan man with ties to the Tren de Aragua (TdA) international gang had been convicted for conspiracy to conduct bank fraud.

According to prosecutors, Darrin Daza-Segura, 26, was sentenced to 10 months in prison and three years of supervised release. He was also sentenced to repay the victim $47,250 in reparations.

After being released from prison, Daza-Segura will be turned over to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for deportation.

Prosecutors said Daza-Segura and his co-defendant Winder Alexander Canelon-Tiapa traveled throughout Mississippi and reprogrammed bank ATMs to distribute enormous quantities of cash, a practice known as “jackpotting.” They stole $47,000 from ATMs in Mississippi banks and attempted to take more.

Canelon-Tiapa also pleaded guilty in this case and is scheduled to be sentenced on May 28, 2026.

The matter was investigated by the Mississippi Attorney General’s Cyber Crime Division.
