The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division concluded a criminal investigation involving Lieutenant John McKenzie, Inv. Curtis Hoskins, and Deputy Joshua Johnson regarding the unauthorized use of the Flock License Plate Reader (LPR) System, according to a news release sent out Monday morning.
According to the investigation, all three deputies knowingly used the Flock camera system to search license plate numbers for reasons unrelated to official law enforcement.
Investigators decided that the searches were carried out for personal purposes and were unrelated to any criminal investigation, call for assistance, intelligence gathering, or other lawful law enforcement operation.
Following the inquiry, Lt. McKenzie, Inv. Hoskins, and Deputy Johnson were arrested and charged with the following:
Following the arrests, all three surrendered themselves into the Richmond County Jail and were jailed.
The investigation also found that all three deputies’ actions violated multiple Richmond County Sheriff’s Office policies, such as unauthorized access and misuse of law enforcement databases and information systems, conduct unbecoming a member of the Sheriff’s Office, and the ethical obligations associated with the Oath of Office.
All three deputies have since been dismissed from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
