A former business owner pled guilty on Thursday to failing to pay employment taxes on behalf of the cleaning firm she operated, resulting in a $1.2 million tax loss to the government, according to the US Department of Justice.
Deborah Meadows, 64, owned and ran A to Z Employment Services LLC, which offered carpet, upholstery, and roadside cleaning services. An IRS inquiry discovered that, beginning in 2010, Meadows withheld taxes from her employees’ wages but neglected to remit them to the IRS. She also did not submit individual tax returns.
According to a news statement with the Department of Justice, Meadows obstructed justice by manipulating bank and tax documents after learning of the inquiry. She faces a maximum punishment of five years in prison. She is set to be sentenced in federal court on May 21, 2026.
