An eight-day manhunt for a homicide suspect concluded Friday morning in Baltimore.
Authorities say 18-year-old Braedon Dickinson was apprehended with the assistance of Pennsylvania State Police, US Marshals, and FBI agents. He is set to be extradited to the Fayette County Jail in the following days.
Dickinson is charged with killing 20-year-old Lemaur Thompson Jr. on February 5 in Uniontown. Investigators say the two men were strolling down Dunlap Street when Dickinson pulled out a revolver and shot Thompson in the back of the head in plain daylight.
Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele stated that the search for Dickinson was swift, with various agencies working around the clock.
“PA State Police in Uniontown have been working 24 hours a day for eight days to make this happen—all hands on deck from the fugitive task force, vice unit, crime unit, and patrol,” Aubele said.
Investigators first offered a $2,000 reward for information leading to his arrest, which was boosted to $5,000 earlier this week.
Investigators are still attempting to uncover the motivation. The district attorney stated that gang activity is a possibility.
“We have done great work, particularly in the city of Uniontown, to eradicate gang and drug activities, but they still exist. “We don’t rule out the possibility that this was a gang-related incident,” Aubele said.
Authorities reportedly attribute Dickinson’s extensive search to her criminal history. When he was 14, he and a group of youths were suspected of killing a man in broad daylight in Westmoreland County, which investigators described as a random act of violence.
Following his imprisonment, Dickinson escaped from a juvenile correctional camp, was apprehended, and has only recently been released.
