Authorities have apprehended a teenager in connection with two shooting incidents late last year in Greenville, following a ballistics analysis.
According to a Jersey City Police Department (JCPD) spokesperson, officers confirmed that shots were fired on Oct. 21 at around 11:19 p.m. at Van Nostrand and Ocean avenues. Then, shortly after midnight on November 6, officers discovered that bullets had been fired in the neighborhood of 102-106 Rutgers Ave.
No injuries were recorded in either instance. Several parked automobiles were damaged by bullets during the second incident.
On January 10, police reacted to a report of a gunman and detained the kid after a foot pursuit in an undisclosed location. A pistol was recovered.
A subsequent ballistic study determined that the recovered pistol was used in both the November and October shooting occurrences.
Following further investigation, the JCPD Ceasefire Unit acquired a warrant and apprehended the youngster on Monday on Bidwell Avenue without incident. The JCPD Street Crimes Unit aided with the arrest.
Among the allegations filed against the minor are attempted murder and unlawful possession of a pistol.
“This case shows what happens when we invest in smart, targeted enforcement and hold violent offenders accountable,” said Mayor James Solomon.
The investigation is underway. Anyone with information regarding an incident is invited to contact the JCPD or submit reports anonymously by emailing [email protected] or calling 855-JCP-reports.
