Wanted man apprehended after SWAT standoff in Clermont County; girlfriend also apprehended

A man wanted on felony warrants in Ohio was apprehended following a standoff at a home in Bethel, according to police.

According to Bethel Police Chief Chad Essert, the subject had felony warrants via Ohio parole for drug possession and assault. Officers received information that the man would be visiting the house.

According to police, the suspect came outside at 3:30 p.m. to light a cigarette before fleeing back inside. Authorities stated he had a girlfriend and a dog inside.

According to Essert, officers used a cellphone to arrange the girlfriend’s withdrawal from the house. The Clermont County SWAT team came to help because of the suspect’s alleged violent past.

SWAT officers eventually convinced the subject to surrender. There were no injuries recorded.

Police identified the culprit as Aaron Abbott and stated that the home did not belong to him. Authorities claimed Abbott’s girlfriend, Rebecca Sampson, was detained on an obstruction charge after telling officers he was not inside the house.
