Missing Downers Grove man discovered dead in pond in Woodridge

A Downers Grove man who had been missing for almost a month was discovered dead on Friday in a retention pond in Woodridge.

On January 9, his family reported Mark Sadelski, 47, missing to the police. Police suspect he wandered away from his home near 71st and Woodward in Downers Grove. He had a condition that authorities believed put him in danger.

On January 21, officers discovered a piece of clothing near a retention pond in the 7300 block of Woodward Avenue in Woodridge. Police and firefighters employed underwater technology to explore the pond but found nothing, and the search was halted due to inclement weather.

On Friday afternoon, officers discovered Sadelski’s body in the pond. The DuPage County Coroner’s Office has scheduled an autopsy to establish what caused his death.
