South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced Friday that an Irmo resident was charged after allegedly taking nearly $15,000 from a nursing home resident.
Demetrias Antonio Roberts, 41, was arrested and charged on Thursday with one count of exploitation of a vulnerable adult and one count of breach of trust with fraudulent intent totaling more than $10,000.
He faces a potential 15-year prison sentence and a $5,000 fine.
An investigation by South Carolina’s Vulnerable Adults and Medicaid Provider Fraud (VAMPF) unit revealed that Roberts allegedly entered the victim’s bank account and made many unlawful purchases and withdrawals totaling $14,862.90 between July 18 and November 13, 2025.
According to the VAMPF unit, none of these transactions benefited the victim and were instead for Roberts’ personal use.
The victim was legally considered a vulnerable adult and resided in an Irmo nursing facility at the time Roberts allegedly extorted them.
He was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center on Thursday. The matter will be pursued by the Attorney General’s Office.
This is a developing story.
