Four teenagers were taken into custody on Sunday afternoon, February 22nd, following an armed robbery at a Citgo gas station in Inverness. Deputies say the suspects stole around $1,500 in vaping items before leaving the scene.
Around 2 p.m., Citrus County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Citgo station at 79 N. Police responded to allegations of an armed robbery on Florida Avenue. Investigators discovered that Joshua Robertson, 19, and Jamison Tanner, 16, entered the business armed with a firearm and approached a clerk and a witness behind the counter. The pair allegedly seized stuff and fled within two minutes, as captured on surveillance video.
According to authorities, Aiden Combs, 16, acted as a lookout outside the business, while Alexander Vazquez, 17, drove the getaway car.
After the robbery, deputies immediately canvassed the area. K9 Deputy Danner and K9 Cairo traced new tire impressions, assisting detectives in determining the suspects’ direction of travel. After surveillance photographs were released on the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, neighborhood members phoned dispatch and informed deputies of the offenders’ identities.
Officials said that all four suspects were apprehended within five hours of the heist.
Each juvenile is facing criminal counts, including robbery with a firearm and grand theft. The inquiry continues, and new charges may be filed.
Sheriff David Vincent thanked both law enforcement officers and neighbors for their prompt responses.
“This case shows what can be accomplished when dedicated deputies and engaged community watchdogs work together,” Vincent said. “Our team moved quickly, and our residents stepped up without hesitation. Because of that partnership, these suspects were identified and apprehended in a matter of hours.”
