Suburban man sentenced to 6.5 years in federal prison for COVID-19 relief fraud

A suburban man was sentenced to six and a half years in prison last week for stealing more than $3 million in COVID-19 relief fraud.

Francesco Distefano, 29, of Addison, was sentenced on Wednesday to 78 months in federal prison for wire fraud.

Distefano and his co-defendant, Sargis Urumieh, 58, of Glendale, California, who pled guilty, sought loans for a technology company that Distefano owned.

They were accused of making several false statements about the company’s activities, including payroll, gross sales, and the number of employees.

Distefano utilized a portion of the $3.3 million to buy a Lamborghini Huracan, Maserati Ghibli, Land Rover Evoque SE, and Porsche 911. The federal government seized all of the automobiles.

Urumieh is expected to be sentenced on July 22.
