Convicted felon detained after report of shots fired near Oxford Oaks

A Wildwood man was detained with illicit pills after police investigated reports of shots fired near Oxford Oaks.

Officers arrived to the vicinity of County Road 209 and Oxford Oaks Lane around 8:25 p.m. on Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. Dispatch described the suspect vehicle as a beat-up white car with damage on the side, which was subsequently discovered to be driven by 21-year-old Hunter Blake Maier.

While driving, the officers noticed a white Toyota Camry with damage on the passenger side near the intersection of West Clarke Street and U.S. 301. Police felt they had the correct vehicle based on the timeframe and location of the sighting. The cops then stopped the car in the parking lot of 7-Eleven, which is located at 4076 County Road 462, according to the report.

Maier obeyed all demands to exit with his hands raised, after which he was handcuffed. The officers obtained his permission to examine the vehicle for firearms and discovered none. However, they discovered a loose 9mm full metal jacket round on the driver’s seat and a cellophane packet containing eight tablets in the center console, according to the report.

Furthermore, a search of Maier’s criminal record revealed that he is currently on felony probation for burglarizing an uninhabited building. He was initially placed on probation in Sumter County on January 22, and his sentence will not expire until January 21, 2029. According to the report, he had already been convicted of felony possession of marijuana (more than 20 grams but less than 25 pounds) by the Fruitland Park Police Department on October 22, 2024.

Maier then confirmed that the tablets belonged to him and were unprescribed Percocet. He was unaware there was ammo in the truck and claimed it did not belong to him. According to the report, he admitted to being a convicted felon and was aware that he was not permitted to possess such items.

He was detained on allegations of possessing a controlled narcotic without a prescription, possessing a weapon or ammunition as a convicted criminal, and breaking his probation. He was detained at the Sumter County Detention Center and held without bond.

Maier was also arrested in May 2024, after his mother led police to his bedroom.
