A convicted felon was arrested for trafficking narcotics in Florida.
A jury recently found 53-year-old Clyde Edward Johnson Jr. guilty of all charges. During the two-day trial, prosecutors presented irrefutable evidence that led to Johnson’s conviction for cocaine trafficking, cathinone trafficking, felon possession of a firearm/ammunition, owning a place for trafficking/selling/manufacturing a controlled substance, and possession of paraphernalia.
On February 15, 2023, investigators from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office arrested Johnson. SCSO’s Special Investigations Squad conducted a search warrant at a location along NE 12th Drive in Oxford, Florida. Officials were aware of continuous narcotics transactions on the site and launched an investigation, which resulted in the execution of the narcotics search warrant.
While detectives were preparing to execute the search warrant, members of the Special Investigations Squad conducting surveillance made contact with Johnson during a traffic stop. The defendant was in possession of a key chain that contained the keys to a fifth-wheel camper and the shed on the property that was the subject of the search warrant. Detectives entered the fifth-wheel using the defendant’s camper key.
Upon entry, law enforcement discovered multiple bags and boxes containing various illicit substances that seemed to be prepared for sale. During the search, detectives discovered a loaded Ruger rifle and more 9mm ammunition.
A criminal background check found that Clyde Johnson is a convicted felon and a registered sexual offender. The defendant has been arrested and charged.
Assistant State Attorneys Elizabeth Hart and Reagan Chapman successfully prosecuted the Florida drug case.
