Pennsylvania child located in Puerto Rico after “extensive investigation,” DA says

A child was located in Puerto Rico after authorities alleged that his father wrongfully removed him from Pennsylvania and subsequently ceased communication, which led to an “extensive investigation.”

The Lackawana County District Attorney reported on Thursday that Frank Nellom, 65, was apprehended in Puerto Rico after illegally removing his son from the Scranton region.

According to the district attorney’s office, the inquiry began when Nellom took his son to Puerto Rico, despite a custody ruling granting the child’s mother full custody. Then Nellom stopped communicating, and authorities claimed they no longer knew where the boy was.

According to the district attorney’s office, investigators discovered Nellom and the child following a large investigation involving several agencies in both the United States and Puerto Rico. According to the DA, the youngster is being cared for by Puerto Rico’s Administration for Families and Children while awaiting reunification with his mother in Pennsylvania.

“While criminal investigations frequently center on arrests and charges, the most important consequence in this instance is that a child is safe and will soon be reunited with his mother,” District Attorney Brian J. Gallagher stated in a social media post. “That result reflects the very best of law enforcement, child advocacy, and interagency cooperation.”

According to court documents, Nellom is currently charged with criminal interference with child custody and concealing a kid’s whereabouts. The Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office stated that the investigation is still ongoing, and additional charges are expected.
