Pop star Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce donated a large sum to benefit students in Northeast Ohio.
After-School All-Stars, a nonprofit that offers after-school and summer programs across the country, announced on Thursday that the celebrity couple gave the organization $2 million.
That monetary gift will directly benefit the nonprofit’s Cleveland and New York chapters, “ensuring more students have access to safe spaces, caring mentors, academic support, enrichment opportunities and health and wellness programming during the critical hours after school,” After-School All-Stars wrote in a press release.
Northeast Ohio isn’t new territory for Kelce. He and his brother Jason Kelce grew up here and attended Cleveland Heights High School. Earlier this year, he bought a minority stake in the Cleveland Guardians.
“This gift comes at a time when access to after-school programs is more important than ever,” said Andrea Bazán, president of After-School All-Stars. “We know that when young people are surrounded by caring adults, their lives are transformed. We’re thankful to Taylor and Travis for also believing in our programs.”
Swift and Kelce have recently made headlines after a source told The Associated Press that their wedding, highly anticipated by fans, will take place Friday, July 3, at Madison Square Garden.
“(We) extend our heartfelt congratulations on their wedding. We are humbled and deeply grateful,” Bazán added. “This extraordinary gift will make a lasting difference for our students and families.”
The couple donated $26 million to various charities across the country this week ahead of the big day, including the Food Bank For NYC, City Harvest, Musical Mentors and more.
Founded in 1992, the organization helps more than 150,000 U.S. students daily. Learn more about it right here.
