Columbus officers responded to a report of domestic violence just before 8 a.m. in the 600 block of S. 22nd Street on Sunday.
Franklin County Municipal Court records show police charged 40-year-old Robert Robbins with felonious assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly attacked his ex-girlfriend with a machete.
Officers found a woman with a visible laceration on her head who said her ex-boyfriend, identified as Robbins, had cut her with a machete, according to court records.
Medical staff at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center treated the woman, who told investigators Robbins showed up at her house the previous evening after being gone for several days. The two began arguing outside the home before she went inside.
Robbins allegedly stayed outside for hours, knocking on her door multiple times to be let in. At some point in the morning, the woman said she sat on her couch, believing Robbins had left.
Court records state Robbins then entered the home using a key he said he’d lost, angry that she hadn’t let him inside. He allegedly approached the woman and pulled out a machete he’d been holding behind his back.
Court filings say he then began cutting off the woman’s hair with the machete while she struggled beneath him, eventually cutting the top of her head. She also sustained multiple cuts to her hand during the attack.
Robbins is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
