Hastings, NE — A thick blanket of fog is expected to form overnight across western and central Kansas and into southern Nebraska, creating very poor visibility and difficult driving conditions through Sunday morning.

The National Weather Service offices in Hastings and Goodland have issued a Dense Fog Advisory effective from 7 PM Saturday to 11 AM Sunday (CDT). Communities impacted include Phillipsburg, Norton, Colby, Hill City, Smith Center, McCook, Holdrege, and Kearney.

Forecasters anticipate visibility dropping to a quarter mile or less at times. Drivers may have trouble seeing wildlife, stopped vehicles, or other hazards on the road. If you must travel, reduce speed, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra time to reach your destination.

The advisory covers several Kansas counties—Osborne, Rooks, Graham, and Thomas—and stretches north into southern Nebraska, including Franklin, Harlan, Furnas, Phelps, and Gosper counties.

Conditions should gradually improve by mid to late Sunday morning as the fog dissipates and visibility returns to normal.
