The Tipton County Sheriff says a juvenile who appeared to be the victim of an armed robbery likely set it up.
The juvenile and another youngster are now facing charges of armed robbery.
Tipton County investigators stated that two friends were allegedly flashing cash and taking “money pics” for social media content when two masked, armed individuals came from a nearby wooded area and demanded the money at gunpoint.
This incident happened in the Happy Valley Subdivision off Campground Road. According to investigators, information acquired suggests that one of the purported “victims” was also involved in the heist planning.
Tipton County Sheriff Shannon Beasley said two juveniles have been arrested so far, but detectives are looking for at least one more.
“Here we are again with another armed robbery involving juvenile suspects,” Sheriff Beasley stated. “Let this serve as a message to our youth: armed robberies are not a game, and poor decisions can have long-term consequences. Keep playing, and sooner or later you’re going to try and rob the wrong one. Our office will continue to take a strong stand against anyone who chooses to put our communities at risk, particularly via violence like this.”
The two juveniles were placed into a detention facility and recently appeared in Juvenile Court.
Both were ordered to remain in detention until their next hearing in late June. The sheriff stated that if the prerequisites are met, the kids’ case could be transferred from “juvenile” to “adult” court.
“I’d want to congratulate our deputies and detectives for their hard work and dedication to this case. Their meticulous attention to detail and unwavering efforts immediately revealed the truth behind this robbery, resulting in the swift arrest of these two criminals, with other arrests presumably pending.”
